Our pets, no matter how great or small, provide us with endless companionship, entertainment and love.

So when a little girl’s hamster went missing, it was completely understandable that she was beside herself with worry.

Thankfully, the four-legged fiend was discovered hiding under the fridge and placed back inside his cage.

But for the next three days, he didn’t move from his spot at the side of cage and didn’t seem to be eating or drinking either, so his family took him to the vet for urgent medical attention.

But vets found nothing wrong with him and said he seemed perfectly happy drinking water and eating some food.

They only discovered the source of the trouble when they looked inside the pet’s mouth and found he had been storing a fridge magnet.

The fridge magnet the hamster had stored in his cheeks after going on the run caused him to be physically stuck to the bars of his metal cage.

A veterinary student who was present for his checkup text her sister, who shared the story with the rest of the world on Twitter.

Hamsters store food in their cheeks so they can hide it away and ensure they have some dinner later in the day.

They can hold up to 20 per cent of their own body weight in their cheeks and can even continue to eat while their cheeks are at full capacity.

Many online found the hamster’s escapade hilarious and some even chipped in with tales of their own hamsters causing a nuisance with their unknown cheek storage.
